Annual Special Issue on Selected PhD Literature Reviews in the Practical Aspects of Software Technology

Software Practice and Experience will dedicate an issue of the Journal to the publication of papers based on the literature reviews that appeared in recently awarded PhD theses. The successful authors whose papers appear will also be given on-line access to the Journal for 12 months. The deadlinefor submission is 14 May, 2009.

Internationally each year thousands of PhD's are awarded in Computer Science and related disciplines. While many result in conference and journal publications, one of the main thesis components, the literature review, is often not published. In recognition of the potential value of these underutilized resources Software Practice and Experience will dedicate an issue of the Journal to the publication of papers based on the literature reviews that appeared in recently awarded PhD theses. All submissions will be subject to the Journal's normal review process and the best 4 or 5 papers will appear in the Special Issue. The successful authors whose papers appear will also be given on-line access to the Journal for 12 months.

Scope
All submitted reviews must be within the broad scope of the Journal's interests. Hence the focus is on the practical, rather than the theoretical, aspects of software and its construction. If a software developer would be interested in the results covered by the review, then the topic is probably suitable for the special issue. Topics with a higher level of concern, such as project management and software process, are usually unsuitable. If you need help in assessing the suitability of a topic, you can send an abstract, up to one page, to the Journal's editors for an opinion.
Size
The review papers are typically expected to be 15 to 20 journal pages in length. The maximum limit is 40 pages.

Dates and Submissions
The Special Issue will be dedicated to Literature Reviews from PhD theses that were accepted in 2008. The deadline
for submission is 14 May, 2009. Papers should be submitted online via the journal homepage
http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/spe under Online Submission. Please indicate the submission is a Special Issue
Paper for the "Literature Review" Special Issue. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the publication
format described in For Authors on the journal home page.
