Our aim is to lead, support and inform the professional development and recognition of staff in higher education.



(External) Become a Fellow of the Academy
The Academy has developed a new professional recognition scheme. The scheme has been designed to support the implementation of the sector-owned UK Professional Standards Framework.


Getting Started in Computer Science Education Research
This resource is aimed at academics whose background is principally in computing/IT at university level, and who are interested in developing their teaching activities with a view to research leading to publication.


Supporting New Staff - Wiki
HEA-iCS have collated a large number of questions, commonly asked by new members staff, and inserted them into a Wiki. The idea is that the Wiki can be deployed in any department, and can serve as an ongoing resource.


(External) National Teaching Fellowship Scheme
From 2006 the Higher Education Academy's National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) has two separate strands: Individual Awards and Projects, with total funding per year of £2.5 million.


External examiners database
ICS is hosting a database of external examiners and potential external examiners in the Information and Computer Science disciplines.


BCS Accreditation Visits
ICS has been provided with permission to share the findings of the BCS accreditation visits on Areas of Good Practice in HEI. Institutions can also expand on the information shared within.


National Awards for the Teaching of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) in Higher Education in Scotland
The ICS Subject Centre welcomes applications for the annual National Awards Scheme for the Teaching of ICS in Higher Education in Scotland. One award of £5,000 is available in the academic year 2009-10.


Special Interest Groups
The ICS Subject Centre has established a number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in thematic areas relevant to the subject community. These discussion groups have been established to facilitate discussion and the sharing of good practice.


Facts and Formulae leaflets

The Maths, Stats & OR network, and sigma have produced a number of leaftlets to support the transition from school mathematics to university mathematics in a range of disciplines.
