CILASS IBL Grants Scheme

(External) CILASS is a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) based at the University of Sheffield that is committed to supporting further development and innovation in Inquiry Based Learning (IBL).

CILASS is now offering other departments and higher education institutions the opportunity to join their (External) external IBL Grants Scheme . The scheme offers grants of up to £4,000 (plus other support) to individuals or groups to enhance or initiate IBL related activity in their teaching.

Applications must be made via the subject centre using the official application form. Recommendations for funding will be then made to a CILASS Funding Panel, who will make the final decision on project funding. Further information about the external IBL grant scheme is available in the documentation below and from (External) the CILASS website .

Please note that this scheme is only open to HEIs based in England. Projects are expected to start in March 2009 or as soon as possible after that date and end in February 2010. The CILASS site has further details.

The deadline for proposals to the Information and Computer Sciences Subject Centre is Friday, 27 february 2009

For more information about CILASS or the external IBL grant scheme contact Nicola Reilly, the CILASS programme manager, on 0114 222 5272 or n.reilly@sheffield.ac.uk .

Proposal Guidelines

Applications for Funding

Applications for funding should be made using the downloadable APPLICATION FORM 2009 (DOC format). Applications should be submitted according to the process advertised by the subject centre. This scheme is only open to HEIs based in England.

A Subject Centre Funding Panel consisting of HE Academy Subject Centre staff and representatives from the subject discipline will be appointed to review applications and make recommendations to the CILASS Funding Panel. Each proposal will be assessed against a set of criteria found in document CRITERIA & ASSESSMENT FORM 2009 (DOC format).

Final decisions on projects to be funded will be made by a meeting of the full CILASS Funding Panel w/c 23rd March 2009.

Eligibility

Proposals will only be accepted from members of UK HE institutions based in England delivering HE programmes in your subject area. Collaborative proposals involving more than one institution are actively encouraged.

Funding Available

In 2008-09, £70,000 has been allocated to support the CILASS IBL Grant Scheme. The maximum funding available for any single project should not exceed £4,000.

Dissemination

Production of a short case-study is a required element of all projects at the time of final formative reporting (again, a template will be provided).  With the permission of the authors, case studies will be used for internal and external dissemination purposes, e.g. externally via HEA Subject Centres.

CILASS will also organise and offer a dissemination event at the University of Sheffield where you will be invited to share your project outcomes and experiences.

Successful projects will be given wide coverage at Higher Education Academy Subject Centre events and via the Centre’s website.
